If you read my résumé on the 'About Me' page (I know it's long so I don't blame you if you didn't!), you'll know I've worked for a LOT of lesson companies, schools and music stores over the years. And some of them I still do! Below are the links to my profiles for a few of these companies I still work for who accept reviews but I also copy/pasted the reviews from those sites and posted them below (even the bad ones!) for your reading pleasure. Enjoy!
P.s. You'll see these are totally legitimate companies. You can use them to sign up for lessons with me, but you'd be losing money! I offer the best rates for my lessons right here on my personal page! And all payments with me are secure through my company, Lessons & Beyond.

5 stars: Fun and suited to my speed of learning - Joyce Champelli
5 stars: He is very knowledgeable! He teaches at a great speed. - Ashley Kedrowski
5 stars: Ian is so patient with my seven year old son. He challenges him on muical theory and has a repertoire that my son can easily grasp and maintain. We love Ian’s “studio”, especially the chair in the shape of a hand! Ian is a cool dude, and we are very happy with the service we’ve been provided. - Marianne Griffin
5 stars: Ian is a wonderful teacher. He knows his subject and just as important how to impart that knowledge to his student. He has also been very patient with me as I have some health issues that sometimes gets in the way, Ian is understanding and empathetic (more good qualities for a teacher). I’m enjoying my lessons and see real progress since coming under his tutelage. 5 stars, no doubt about it! - Gary Kaplan
5 stars: My three kids (7yrs, 7yrs, 9yrs) have been taking ukelele lessons with Ian for about 9 months now and love it. He is extremely reliable, timely and organized. We have had both in-person and online lessons with Ian and would definitely recommend him. It's great to see my kids picking up an instrument on their own now, for fun. :) - Sarah Thompson
5 stars: It is very apparent that he is a very qualified and knowledgeable instructor. He is very patient and is able to work with most schedules. If anyone is looking to learn, I strongly recommend Ian! - Leann Tran
5 stars: I’ve been taking guitar lessons with Ian for a few months now, and I love the steady progress that I’ve been making. Ian is very methodical in his 1-on-1 sessions, and he doesn’t let me move on until I’ve mastered a prior lesson. I like how he emphasizes timing and music theory. I also like how he balances teaching songs that I want to play while also learning from lesson books and other material. I started off doing his in-home lessons. However, due to the pandemic I switched to his virtual offerings, and I have to say that the transition has been mostly seamless. I find that he is still very observant and catches any subtle mistakes that I make while playing. In the past I’ve taken group guitar lessons elsewhere, and while fun, I find that I wasn’t truly learning or seeing significant improvement at the pace that I wanted. I already see significant improvements over the past few months of working with Ian, and I’d highly recommend Ian as a guitar teacher to anyone interested in learning to play and having fun while doing it. - Chris Ridmann
5 stars: Ian is awesome! Excellent instructor! It's obvious he enjoys teaching and is excellent at it. My ukulele skills have increased significantly since working with Ian. I strongly recommend Ian for anyone looking to learn or advance their ukulele skills. - Diego Torres
5 stars: Ian is a fabulous instructor. I hired him in November, in a panic to learn a song to play for my family as a surprise by Christmas - he got me started right away and my family was surprised and impressed! He’s taught me much more since then with his well thought out lesson plans. I love the ease and convenience of online classes as well as his flexibility. I highly recommend Ian for any beginner, such as myself. - Debra Sitar

5 stars: He is very knowledgable, patient, and organized. - Candice Hickman
5 stars: Ian is a patient, highly knowledgeable teacher for my young sons. I’ve seen their growth, and I couldn’t be prouder; I know that it takes a great teacher to see those results. 5 stars: Excellent!- Janet B.
4 stars: First lesson was great. It took a little time setting up and getting to know each other. For a first lesson, I came away with some very useful information on a song I was having a problem with. I like the direction it is going. Looking forward to the next lesson. - William Z
5 stars: Well hello there budding musician- I started taking ukulele lessons with nearly zero previous experience and little idea what to expect a few months ago. As a teacher, Ian is extremely patient, accommodating, and attentive, but remains very much human throughout the whole process. His years spent teaching across instruments, ages, and levels of expertise make for a trustworthy experience. Definitely recommend. - Krista S.
5 stars: I have taken guitar lessons in the past and wanted to revisit one of my passions again. I decided to take lessons with Ian since he is in my neighborhood and I’m really glad I did. Ian has been very patient and attentive to my learning style. As our lessons have progressed so has the direction of each class. It’s really cool to see how all the concepts we have gone over build on each other. I feel like Ian really goes above and beyond to learn about his students and what they are hoping to achieve. Ian has also been very flexible with my work schedule. After several months of lessons with Ian I can say I’ve learned several things from finger picking, timing, and reading notes. I can’t wait to continue my journey! - Savoy
1 star: I wish I could leave a review on his teaching but unfortunately, I couldn't even experience his teaching prowess. I gifted 5 in-home guitar lessons to my fiance as a birthday present. After speaking to Takelesson representatives I was told that we were in Ian's in home radius. Ian did not teach my fiance because he did not find "parking", which felt like a little bit of an unreasonable answer. When my fiance asked to be taught on weekdays he declined that too and instead offered online classes. The point of in-home is flexibility and 1:1 attention and we were disappointed that we could not have that opportunity due to how unaccommodating it felt. Would like to leave feedback to both Ian and Takelessons to include these nuances as customers are often really excited only to be let down. - Juie S.
5 stars: Ian is an incredible teacher. Very patient and professional. The way he teaches is very straight forward and easy to understand. I can’t wait to learn more & more... less than a week has passed since my lesson. I already feel so comfortable with my ukulele,
All the utube lessons were useless for me. I realized this after 1 lesson with Ian. The frustration factor on utube was a waste of time for me. I am so happy I chose ian & this company.
Thank you so much, jen - Jen K.
5 stars: Great teacher
My son loves learning guitar from Ian! He is so patient with children. His love for music is infectious. He makes my son look forward to learning each week. If you want to learn guitar... Pick Ian! - Michelle L.
5 stars: great teacher for popular acoustic guitar
Ian is a no nonsense well organized guy. He taught me using exercises he wrote out on paper mostly in tabulature form. He used a metronome from the first lesson and always introduced a music theory concept such as rhythm, pentatonic scales, and chord transposition. He will not move past any exercise until you can demonstrate proficiency so there is no choice but to draw your own conclusion that you need to practice more if you want to progress. He teaches out of his local all ages music venue, or will travel to your home. - Carolyn L.
5 stars: A great experience.
As an adult, beginner student I have nothing but good things to say about Ian. He has a very good demeanor during class and takes the time to find out what styles you are interested in.
He has the patience and communication skills that are found in superior instructors (I have been to a couple others and have stuck with Ian). His passion for music is infectious.
He challenges me to become better with each week and is good at instilling a sense of competition. I highly recommend him as an instructor. - Paul R.
4 stars: Acoustic guitar
Good teacher, very passion with kids. My son really likes this classes. -Leo S.
